Sheet Metal Foreman

Average Salary Range: $76,000 - $122,000*

Sheet metal foremen supervise and coordinate activities of the craft personnel engaged in the fabrication, installation, and repair of sheet metal products, systems, and structures. They must have knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal, tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade, and shop mathematics and principles.

In a typical day, sheet metal foremen may:

  • Select the gauge and type of sheet metal based on products being fabricated or installed
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of craft workers and subcontractors
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and work orders
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations
  • Establish and adjust work schedules based on equipment, materials, and capabilities of personnel
  • Analyze and resolve work problems
  • Coordinate project activities with other trades
